Here's proof that the money from those scratch off lottery tickets is actually doing some good for the state of Illinois.

Western Illinois University in Macomb has won the Governor's Award for Excellence in Veterans Education.

The school also won a $75,000 cash grant that is funded from the sales of those scratch off tickets.

The award was presented to outgoing school president Al Goldfarb on Wednesday.

In 2009, Governor Quinn signed the Higher Education Veterans Service Act to expand resources for college bound veterans.

Since  2006 the Veterans Cash Grant program has given out more than 8.4 million dollars to organizations that support veterans.
