KEOKUK, IOWA -- Keokuk stepped back into the 1860's this weekend as a tribute to the Civil War. Dating back 150 years ago, more than a hundred men reenacted battles between the north and south on the front lines of Rand Park.

Hundred of spectators lined the park to get an up close look at the gunfire and smoke.

Taking your eyes off the battle scene, you'd also find people in period clothing, both civilians and military men. For them, it's all about bringing history back to life.

"It's fun and it teaches history. I'm a retired teacher and it gives me a chance to teach history to children and adults who are truly interested in learning America's history. A very important event in our nations history," said Scott Whitney, portraying General Ulysses S. Grant.

If you're a history buff and would like a chance to reenact some of America's history, Whitney says it's pretty simple. You just have to pick a subject, become somewhat of an expert on it and join the front lines.
