Jacksonville offices now open to the public

JACKSONVILLE, ILL. -- The FutureGen Alliance welcomed Morgan County residents at a meet and greet at its new offices in Jacksonville, Illinois Tuesdsay. Residents were able to voice their concerns over the project and get their questions answered by the heads of the development.

FutureGen 2.0 is a first-of-its-kind near zero emissions power plant.

The Alliance is planning to upgrade an existing power plan in Merediosia with oxy-combustion technology to capture approximately 90 percent of the plant's emissions. Carbon dioxide waste will be transported and stored underground in Morgan County.The project is estimated to cost $1.3 billion as is supported by a $1 billion commitment in federal funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
