The Hancock County Journal Pilot reports that crews had been working on the steeple for a couple of weeks.

Friday a worker using a heat gun to remove paint left the gun on and a fire started.

Fire crews were able to respond quickly and put out the fire but there was a lot of damage to the steeple.

We are working on getting more information at this time, so check this story later and watch KHQA's News at Five, KHQA's Evening News at 6 p.m. and KHQA's Late News at 10 p.m.
