MT. STERLING, ILL. -- The Senior Center in Mt. Sterling stands no more.
Mt. Sterling police officers were driving around early Saturday morning when they noticed a dust ball on Capitol Street and water pouring down the road.
The front third of the building caved in.
The second floor contained important records for the city -- those were removed this afternoon.
There is no official cause for the collapse but Mt. Sterling Police Chief Bill Wilson thinks it might be because there was standing water on the roof.
Wilson says, "Right now, they're going to demolish the front half, get it cleared away so they can actually see what's left, make sure that it's safe because there's a business right next door."
Several other buildings have been offered as a temporary replacement.
No one was in the building at the time of the collapse.
