RUSHVILLE, ILL. -- UPDATED: May 10 at 4:17 p.m.

Rushville Fire Chief Vic Menely tells KHQA that the fire at the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church will probably go down as undetermined.

We will bring you any further information as it is released.

-------------------

A pickup-sized hole now separates the basement kitchen from the upstairs sanctuary at a Rushville church after a late evening fire on Sunday night.

Rushville fire crews arrived at the Sugar Grove United Methodist church around 6:30 p.m. and found a lot of smoke and flames pouring from the building.

The Rushville fire chief says that the fire started in the ceiling of the basement kitchen and burned through to the floor of the sanctuary.

There is also a lot of smoke and water damage.

Because the fire was in a rural area, mutual aid from Beardstown and Mt. Sterling was called in to help.

An investigator is expected sometime on Monday to try to determine the cause of the fire.
