Congressman talks about tri-state concerns to crowd
QUINCY,ILL. -- Community leaders from across Adams County gathered together Friday morning in Quincy to share their thoughts and concerns about the issues facing the state and the nation.
Congressman Bobby Schilling was the keynote speaker for the event.
The congressman says that one of this goals has been to represent the issues an concerns of the people of downstate Illinois in Washington D.C.
Another big issue that the congressman spoke about is the national debt ceiling.
The congressman said that the clean debt ceiling proposal that was given to the President was voted down by 74% of congress.
And he says time is running out and something has to be done.
Schilling says, "What's going to need to happen is there's going to need to be some sincere cuts, some things that are going to keep us from hitting that debt ceiling again. I mean it's no different than your kid with a credit card. If they max it out, you don't just keep raising that debt ceiling. You go in there and you find out what the problem is. And that's what we need to do in Washington"
The annual breakfast also serves as a fundraiser for Representative Jil Tracy.
