ADAMS COUNTY, ILL. -- UPDATED: June 12 at 1:45 p.m.

Marcelline residents are back at home after an overnight gas leak caused the town's evacuation.  Now, authorities are looking for the man suspected of causing the leak with a rifle.

The Adams County Sheriff's Department responded to a Nicor substation along IL 96, directly across from the Down on the Corner Tavern.

Just after 1:30 a.m., the Ursa and Lima/Tioga Fire Departments began evacuating the town of Marcelline.  Emergency management crews set up a shelter for the residents at a church in Ursa.

Soon after, Nicor Gas Company responded and was able to contain the gas leak that authorities have determined was caused from a firearm.  Deputies received information that a group of people were outside the Down on the Corner Tavern during closing time when a man fired 30 rounds at a stop sign outside the tavern.  One of those rounds traveled across IL 96 striking the gas line.

Adams County deputies are now looking for a suspect by the name of Chase Brown, 22, white male.  He faces charges of unlawful use of a weapon and criminal damage to property over $500.  Other charges may be brought against him as the investigation continues.

If you know of Brown's whereabouts, you're asked to call the Adams County Sheriff's Office at 217-277-2200.
