TRI-STATE REGION -- If you live in the county of Lee, Scotland, Clark, Hancock, Lewis, Marion, Adams, Brown, Scott, or Pike Illinois, you received from 2-and-a-half to 8 inches of rainfall on Monday night! Most of these areas picked up from 3 to 5 inches, but places like Clark County and the central part of Adams County cashed in on those shockingly high 8-inch totals.
The stage is set for another round of strong to severe thunderstorms for Tuesday night, and localized heavy rainfall again will be a notable threat. Many of the same areas that received heavy rainfall on Monday night will see the highest rainfall totals again on Tuesday night. The Tri-State region is under a Flash Flood Watch into Wednesday morning. Ensure that gutters are cleaned, sump pumps are in great working order, and any other preparations that you need to complete are considered. Be very careful when encountering water-covered roads. Turn around and find an alternate route.
At this time, it seems that the Mississippi River will rise to at least 23-and-a-half feet in both Quincy and Hannibal by Thursday evening. Here, the river has gone up more than a foot-and-a-half in the last twenty-four hours. Northward to Burlington, the river has remained almost steady. It’s really the southern half of the Tri-States that will have the biggest flooding impact along rivers and streams this week. The Mississippi River would quickly recede into early next week provided more heavy rainfall does not occur this weekend. There is a threat for more rain this weekend, but it’s a little early to determine how much we may get.
