PARIS, MO. (AP) -- Investigators say they don't believe the origin of the fire that killed two sisters in rural Monroe County was suspicious.

Bill Zieres of the State Fire Marshal's Office says the cause of the fire is still unknown because the extent of damage is making it difficult to determine.

The blaze killed 15-year-old Sara Brown and 7-year-old Maria Brown in the two-story farmhouse just before daybreak Tuesday.

Only part of a stairway and remnants of the foundation remained after the fire.

The girls lived there with their mother, Glenna Sharp.

At the time of the fire, Zieres said, Sharp and her boyfriend were at a Wal-Mart looking for electrical parts to fix the furnace in the home that broke down the night before.
