Hannibal man pours gasoline on home, wields knife

Someone called the Hannibal Police Department and reported that a man was dumping gasoline near the 100 Block of North 7th near a house and threatening people with a knife.

Officers responded to the call at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday morning and observed, according to reports, 25-year-old Joel D. Daniels of Hannibal standing in front of a house with a knife in his hand and yelling at an unknown person inside. 

The suspect eventually dropped the knife and was taken into custody without injury or incident. 

Upon investigation at the scene police were able to determine that a gasoline type substance was poured on the porch area of the residence. 

No injuries were reported.

Daniels was arrested for Attempted Arson (felony,) Unlawful Use of a Weapon (felony,) Driving While Intoxicated (Misdemeanor) and open liquor. 

He was transported to the Marion County Jail where he is being held pending the filing of formal charges.
