SHELBINA, MO. -- Back to normal may also be a ways off for Shelbina, Missouri.
Last week, the National Weather Service confirmed two E-F-1 tornados caused the damage.
KHQA checked back in Shelbina Tuesday.
Work picked back up Tuesday in Shelbina after a much needed three day weekend.
Dennis Klusmeyer says, "We've had crews running everyday. We ran all last week and we started crews again this morning. It's just shear volume is why it's taking so long."
Mayor John Smith says, "We tried to do it ourselves. We're working our street crew to do it and our street crew only consists of two guys and three part time summer help guys."
There was a third full time employee, but he retired last Thursday. These guys worked for literally days with little to no sleep. They've made great progress, but there's still a long way to go.
Dennis Klusmeyer says, "I would make an estimate that we are not quite 25 percent done with brush removal in town."
To help, the city hopes to hire a couple of contractors to help with tree and debris removal.
Dennis Klusmeyer says, "Even with that, we're still looking at two weeks before we get debris finished."
The crews that are working are clearing the streets and taking everything to this burn pile. Right now there's about 10,000 cubic yards of debris, and this is just scratching the surface. City Administrator Dennis Klusmeyer appreciates everyone's help and patience. He says just continue to do what you're doing, and together the community will be back to normal in no time.
The city is applying for a burn permit from the Department of Natural Resources.
Hope are to have that burn permit in place by Wednesday so the city can get rid of all the debris.
