In our Facebook Story of the Day for July 5, we take a look at fast food restaurants who might look to cash in on alcohol sales.
We haven't seen it in our market just yet, the move to serve booze with fast food, but recently a Facebook fan asked us if we'd been hearing about this trend.
The city of Quincy has not had any requests come through to sell alcohol in fast food restaurants.
There are a few well-known fast food chains, like Sonic and Burger King, that have opted to provide alcoholic beverages at their restaurants in places like Florida and Las Vegas.
In larger cities nearby like Springfield Illinois, Chipotle Mexican Grill serves up beer and margaritas with fast mexican food. They don't have drive thru windows, however.
If a fast food restaurant in Quincy were going to apply, they would have to go through the liquor commission for a license. There could also be a zoning issue depending on where the restaurant is located. If they are in a C1B they would have to apply for a special permit to serve alcohol ... or they could apply for a change in zoning. C2 zoning allows alcohol service and sales.
Mayor John Spring is the liquor commissioner.
Some people criticize this trend, others just want a drink with their lunch.
