The Missouri Department of Transportation will receive $3.4 million in an effort to provide kids a safe way to get to school.
The Safe Routes to School Program will divide the money into 16 projects.
One of those projects is in Kahoka.
A more than $242,000 grant will be used to build new sidewalks within a two-block radius of Black Hawk Elementary and Clark County Middle schools.
A new crosswalk will be painted on the streets and signs will be put in on 16 streets.
New sidewalks are also coming to Hannibal along the north side of Palmyra Road.
People will also have an easier time crossing the road with new pedestrian signals.
It's all part of a $249,000 grant the City of Hannibal received through the same Safe Routes to School program.
The project includes building a new sidewalk from Orchard Point to Pulliam Street.
Signals will appear at a new crossing near Pulliam Street at the entrance to the Hannibal Middle School.
All of the sidewalks and crossings will be ADA compliant
