The Florida man accused of stabbing in Wever, Iowa last year has pleaded down to a lesser charge.

The Burlington Hawkeye reports that Steve Burns  visiting Dianna Pollpeter at her home in Wever last August when the stabbing incident happened after an argument. 

She was treated at a local hospital for throat injuries.

When sheriff's deputies arrived, Burns ran into Pollpeter's home and cut himself in the wrist and chest and he also was hospitalized.

The lesser charge of willful injury carries a mandatory 10 year sentence.

A Wever, Iowa woman is recovering after getting stabbed outside her home Sunday afternoon.

Lee County Sheriff James Sholl told KHQA a male friend from Florida was visiting Diana Pollpeter when he stabbed her outside of her garage.

The suspect then ran inside the home where three teenagers were located.

Two of those teenagers were able to run out of the house ... one of them locked herself inside the bathroom.

Authorities found the suspect in the master bedroom.

The man had self-inflicted knife wounds to both wrists and his chest.

He was taken to an Iowa City hospital.

Pollpeter underwent surgery for the stabbing Sunday afternoon and is expected to recover.

Sheriff Sholl credits his own department, along with the Iowa State Police and Iowa Department of Natural Resources for responding to the incident.
