HANNIBAL, MO. -- A plan to reconstruct the intersection of U.S. 61 and West Ely Road in Hannibal is getting pushed to the back burner for now.

The Missouri Department of Transportation says when they advertised for bids for the project, not one contractor submitted a bid.

The plan called for a right turn lane to be added on Pleasant Street and for a left turn lane to be added to West Ely Road.

MODOT says they're going to have a meeting with local contractors to see what can be done to try and lure bids when it comes up again next spring.

Rick Domzalski is the project manager and he said, "There's a certain amount of work that can be done before the contractor comes. And we're going to continue to pursue getting

that work done. But there's a certain amount of work that needs to be done in conjunction with the project. The manholes need to be adjusted that sort of thing had to be done when the contractors out there Because we can't just raise a manhole three inches and let that set out there for months until the contractors come along and does his work."
