QUINCY, ILL. -- Brown seems to be the new green, and with July being one of the hottest months on record, it's no wonder area yards are brown.
Lack of rain mixed with the heat wave ... yards have really suffered.
But it's not too late for some yards, it just depends on what kind of grass you have and how much you water it.
Some grasses are not going to recover, other grasses will.
Bluegrass is hard to grow in hot, dry conditions.
To keep a lawn green, you should water your yard several times a week. If that doesn't help, then it's time to think ahead to next year.
Floyd Leffers with Leffers Landscaping in Quincy says the best time to seed is the 1st of September, might still be dry, but the grass will sit till you water it yourself.
