QUINCY, ILL. -- Stopping at a red light, putting on your seatbelt, and using your turn signal are things you should do every day you drive.

But as kids head back to school you might have forgotten some of the rules when you drive through school zones.

First of all, you need to slow down. In Quincy the speed limit in school zones is 20 -- in Hannibal it's only 15.  Also, it's important to remember not to talk on your cell phone in school zones.  It's illegal in Illinois.

Keep kids in mind.  They are often excited to go back to school, and get out of school at the end of the day.  They might run across the street.

You should eliminate any distractions such as playing with your radio, eating and drinking, or playing with a navigation device.

School zones are in effect from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
