House heavily damaged after fire

HANNIBAL, MO -- UPDATED: Aug 22 at 12:45 p.m.

A Hannibal house was heavily damaged after an overnight fire. The house at #6 Homestead had flames shooting out when crews arrived.

The fire broke out on August 18th, but was was under control in minutes.

A resident of the home, Vikki Lewis, was transported to Hannibal Regional Hospital for injuries she sustained in the fire.  Mrs. Lewis was later transfered to a hospital in Columbia Mo. were she passed away at 3:44 p.m. on Friday August 19, 2011. 

Mrs. Lewis's death is being ruled accidental with the injuries she sustained in the fire as a contributing factor to her death.

The Hannibal Fire Department has ruled the fire accidental.
