CANTON, MO. -- The Canton R-V school district has a new superintendent this year.
Andy Anderson was getting ready to retire from his small north central Missouri school district in Newtown Harris, when he got the call from Canton's former superintendent David Tramel. Tramel left Canton last spring to become the superintendent for the New Bloomfield R-III District.
The school board hired Anderson as an interim superintendent for the next year while it looks for a permanent replacement. Anderson says he's not dismissing a longer time in Canton.
"I've just been really pleased with the quality of the faculty and staff. The students are wonderful. It's just a good school," said Anderson.
We asked Anderson what issues he plans to tackle in the next school year.
"I've been a little disappointed that the governor has cut education like he has.Usually, it was kind of no man's land. That hasn't been the case. But we're in good shape right now, financially, going to watch the bottom line. Just excited to get the school year started. It's just been a good experience so far," said Anderson.
Anderson spent the last 15 years as a superintendent for Newton-Harris, previous to working for two other districts in northwest Missouri. He's played the role of teacher and a basketball coach.
