School bus drivers in Illinois can be suspended for three years if the driver refuses or fails an alcohol or drug test.

Governor Pat Quinn signed that new legislation Tuesday.

It allows a school bus company that has a reasonable suspicion that the school bus driver is under the influence to take an alcohol or drug test before driving a school bus.

The new law takes effect January 1, 2012.
