KANSAS CITY, MO. (AP) -- State transportation officials on Tuesday postponed a decision on awarding a contract for a massive effort to improve more than 800 of Missouri's bridges within five years.
The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission was scheduled to choose between two teams of contractors that have submitted proposals for the project.
But Missouri Department of Transportation Director Pete Rahn told the commission that his agency needs needed between 30 and 60 more days to study the more than 700,000 documents submitted by the contractors.
Rahn said he expected the department to be ready to submit a recommended action to the commission within two months.
