QUINCY, ILL. -- The events of that tragic day are still vivid in the minds of most people - but not for children.
Most kids today weren't born before 9-11 let alone remember it.
However, educators are doing their best to teach the reason for the day to students born in a post 9-11 world.
Ellington Elementary School teacher Ken Mansell is teaching kids about the events surrounding 9-11. He doesn't talk about the reasons behind the attack, but says the attack itself is an important part of our nation's history that children need to understand.
This veteran of the Marine Corps served in the first Gulf War. But now he's telling the story of 9-11 to instill a sense of patriotism and respect for emergency responders and others who serve our country.
His hope is his students understand the day, not forgetting the loss and sacrifices made by those who stepped forward to help save lives.
Families are encouraged to attend one of many 9-11 ceremonies around the Tri-States this Sunday. Click here for a complete list.
