QUINCY, ILL. -- You can expect changes soon at a downtown eyesore in Quincy.

Monday night, the Quincy City Council approved a resolution to repair the Paper Box Building on Vermont Street.

The council approved the low bid of $420 per window unit from A M Painting out of Loraine through the city's fix or flatten program.

The building has fallen into disrepair and has become a safety hazard.

The city pushed the issue with the building's owner Don Weinburg twice before.

Last year, he and city officials signed an agreement that gave Weinberg until January 2011 to make certain repairs to the building.

When the owner didn't meet the deadline, the city got a court order to enforce it.

City Planner Chuck Bevelheimer said, "Right now, the work is being done by a contractor, but it's been done very slowly. Our goal is to get this project done, complete and be done with the project."

Twenty-five percent of the window units have already been repaired.

Bevelheimer said the repair work should be finished in about 30 days.
