BURLINGTON, IOWA -- A man accused of setting the fires that damaged a church in Burlington earlier this year is asking the judge in his case to appoint a new attorney for him.
The Hawk Eye newspaper of Burlington reports that 43-year-old Victor Clegg Jr. told District Court Judge Cynthia Danielson on Monday that he is not receiving proper representation from his current court-appointed attorney.
Clegg also said his current attorney refereed to him as a "firebug."
Danielson is considering Clegg's request for a new attorney.
Police say he broke into the church and was involved in the Union Baptist Church fire last April.
Clegg has been charged with second-degree arson and second-degree burglary in the April 16 fire at Union Baptist Church.
The church suffered over 200 thousand dollars in damage.
