QUINCY, ILL -- U.S. Senator Dick Durbin went to bat for Quincy Thursday afternoon.

He was upset to learn that nine facilities in Illinois are on the chopping block.

That includes the Quincy processing and distribution annex just off of Wissman lane.

Durbin says he found out about the closure plans from the media and not directly from the postal service.

On Thursday, the Senate Appropriations Committe directed the Postal Service to stop any consolidation plans until a full and complete study has been conducted.

Durbin says that a similar study in 2009 showed that cutting the Quincy facility would not provide the postal service with any significant cost savings.
