QUINCY, ILL. -- We all hear of green energy and being environmental friendly and now there's a house in Quincy that has been certified green by the National Association of Homebuilders.
Dale Koontz Builders recently completed building a home at 1427 Tuscany Drive and they had to meet a comprehensive list of requirements to make their new development a certified green home.
Koontz says a builder must quantify and qualify the green building at all levels.
Some of the green features include lot and site development, energy, water, resource efficiency, indoor environmental quality and homeowner education.
"We wanted to see how difficult it would be to obtain that status. It wasn't really that hard. We were already doing a lot of the things that would allow us to meet that certification. And I think there is definitely a market for people interested in renewable products and energy efficiency," said Tim Koontz of Koontz Builders in Quincy.
