FORT MADISON, IOWA -- A long time Iowa state senator is calling it quits after this term.

According to the Daily Gate City, Senator Gene Fraise (D) says he will not seek re-election in 2012.

“I’ve been honored to serve the people of Southeast Iowa,” Fraise told DailyGate.com. “I am thankful for their support and for the support of my family and friends over these many years.”

Fraise has served in the Iowa Senate since 1986.

This is his seventh term in the Senate.
