A former mayor from Western Illinois could become one of the newest members of the Amtrak Board of Directors.
Former Macomb Mayor Tom Carper has been nominated to sit on the board by President Bush. His name was given to the president by Illinois Senator Dick Durbin.
The seven member board sets corporate board policy and overseas the management of the national passenger system.
Carper will serve on the board for the next five years.
