COOK COUNTY, IL. -- It's no secret Illinois has hit some hard financial times.

In fact, funding has largely dried up for the state's indigent burial program.

That's causing a bit of a stir when it comes to how some counties handle dead bodies.

Here's the story you voted as your Facebook Story of the Day.

Bodies left for more than two weeks at the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office will be donated for medical research.

Police have been told to make "all efforts" to find next of kin, but in cases where no relatives are found those bodies will also be donated.

There are some exceptions such as decomposed bodies, those infected with the AIDS virus and bodies that weigh more than 300 pounds. The county will bury those bodies.

It's not clear yet if other Illinois counties will follow this lead.
