QUINCY, ILL. -- A great weekend to get out and about coming up, and if you're looking for something to do and help a good cause, think Sammy.
The Sammy Fund weekend is upon us. This Saturday morning at nine is the fun run walk ... registration is at eight. You can meet at Madison Park in Quincy to sign up.
If you don't know, the Sammy Fund raises money in honor of Samantha Otte who died following complications of a liver transplant when she was just nine-years-old.
This year is the 12th year for the fundraiser, and the money continues to go to youth organizations.
To date, more than $450,000 has been raised, and Samantha's mom says that is a true tribute to the people of this community.
June Otte says, "It started off as being a response to the grief of losing a child, which will never go away. However this has grown into some comfort for the people who love her and other people who didn't even know her. It's grown into a big comfort in the community to see all of these children's activities taking place in her memory."
The weekend continues Sunday with a golf tournament at Westview and a silent auction.
