TRI-STATE AREA -- Even if your town is not under a specific burning ban, please use quite a bit of caution this weekend for any activity that involves an open flame – cigarettes, bon fires, grills, fireworks, and et cetera. It’s an understatement in most cases to say that burning is not advised at this time.
Even farmers are having issues with field fires as they’re trying to harvest their crops. We’ve had at least three such fire reports today.
Area-wide, our last substantial rain came in late June! Any moisture we had even deep into the soil has long since sponged to the top of the ground and evaporated over the last several months. In fact, during the hottest days back in August, the soil was easily losing a quarter to half-an-inch of moisture per day – in other words, it’s dry!
This weekend will be breezy with low humidity and no rain, so this will continue to mean a much-higher-than-normal danger of grass and field fires.
