QUINCY, ILL. -- The YWCA is calling all cake decorators to Quincy.
The second annual Cake-A-Palooza's just around the corner. Sunday, the group kicked off the event at the Quincy Mall with decorating demonstrations and resources for decorating ideas for those interested in participating. This time should give them plenty of time to come up with some clever ideas for the actual cake-off.
But more than anything, it will be time spent helping local families needing your help.
"The YWCA Supportive Housing turned away 540 women and children last year who said they were homeless and needed shelter, so homelessness is a huge problem. This is to bring awareness about that. We have a live extreme competition where five professional teams compete live and they make beautiful cakes that serve over 100 people. Those are all donated to the women's shelters, soup kitchens and the veteran's home," said Mary Muehlenfeld, the executive director for the YWCA.
Cake-A-Palooza is scheduled for February 11, 2012 in the Quincy Mall. The theme? "Love is." Just in time for Valentine's Day.
