Fort Madison man dies in bicycle accident

MONTROSE, IOWA -- A Fort Madison man died Friday afternoon after a bike ride along Highway 61 South near Montrose, Iowa turned deadly.

Michael Alexander, 57, was riding his bike on the outside lane when a truck in the same lane struck him from behind.  The driver of the truck was Wayde Youngquist, 48, of Montrose.

Alexander later died from his injuries at the Fort Madison Community Hospital.

Alexander was a conductor for BNSF and previously served in the US Navy. His memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m.at the King-Lynk Funeral Home. Click here to read Alexander's obituary.
