QUINCY, ILL. -- Dozens of people converged at the Illinois Veterans Home Sunday morning in hopes to bring an end to worldwide hunger.

In today's economy, this community CROP Hunger walk will do more than bring awareness to the issue of hunger, it will provide for area residents suffering from it.

Eight local churches took part in the strides to raise a goal of $6,000 for area food pantries. Money raised will also fund self-help programs in other countries.

"In some ways, it's setting up wells and providing for them. Certain families would have either animals to help further their health and well being or starting programs for women in certain areas where it helps them earn an income," said Marty Burns, the CROP Walk Chairman.

This year, a fourth of the money raised from the CROP walk will go to Quanada's food bank.
