QUINCY, ILL. -- Halloween is right around the corner.

It's a fun holiday for kids, but for parents, trick-or-treat time can be a little "tricky."

Quincy Police Department offers some tips to make Halloween a treat for all in this KHQA Safe Family Health Report.

Don't go trick-or-treating alone or late at night. Go before dark with friends or even better an adult you trust.

Wear a costume that can be seen in the dark and fits well so you don't trip.

Also, use makeup instead of a mask. Masks can be hot and obstruct a child's vision.

And don't eat any candy until you get home and an adult has examined them.

Eat only unopened candies and other treats that are in original wrappers.

Another tip -- it's best to stay in your neighborhood.

And if it's dark, don't forget to grab a flashlight.
