DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- Iowa lawmakers are studying a plan to address a projected shortfall in road funds.
It includes increasing the state's gas tax, licensing and registration fees to raise an extra $200 million by fiscal 2012. The package is by the Associated General Contractors of Iowa, a road construction industry group.
A joint House-Senate subcommittee has agreed to submit the plan to their caucuses and to Governor Culver for comment.
It calls for raising the state's gas tax by $0.04 a gallon.
Vehicle fee registrations would change to better equalize charges among cars, pickups and various commercial and agriculture trucks.
It would also increase fees for driver's licenses, trailer registrations fees and title fees.
