TAYLOR, MO. -- A local girl scout just received the highest award a girl scout can earn, the Gold Award.

Makenzie Meyer spent the last summer working on a project that will give children with disabilities better access to His Ranch in Taylor, Missouri. The horse ranch provides free horseback riding for all children, including those with disabilities. Meyer's sister is one of them.

Up until now, people visiting the ranch didn't have any type of shelter from the weather. Meyer decided to change that and asked for help from community members to build a shelter and concrete ramp up to the horse track.

Saturday, dozens of friends and family members celebrated the shelter's dedication as well as Makenzie's efforts.

"It took about 5 months altogether with the planning. Then we finally finished it in September, but it feels really good to see it all finished and to see everyone really appreciate it and using it today. It feels really good," said Meyer.

His ranch has served about 850 children to date partnering with many of our local developmentally disabled schools and organizations. If you know of children or families that could benefit from the facility, His staff asks you send them their way.
