KEOKUK, IOWA -- River traffic at Keokuk's Lock and Dam is back open after a six day shutdown.

According to the Daily Gate City, the problem came after a large, 220 thousand pound gate fell inside the lock as it was being reset after some repairs.

Thirty-five tows, which included 525 barges, were stalled by the shutdown and were forced to tie up above and below the lock.

Things should be back to normal in the next 24 hours.
