Continued negotiations on Quincy teachers' contracts

QUINCY, ILL. -- UPDATE: Decmber 1 at 9:44 p.m.

The Quincy School Board met in closed session Thursday night to discuss a number of issues including collective bargaining  between the teachers union and the school district.

No details of that meeting were released to the public.

A date has been set for the school board and the teachers union to meet with a federal mediator.

That meeting is set for Wednesday, December 15th around 5 p.m.

UPDATED: December 1 at 10:11 a.m.

The Quincy School Board is holding a special meeting Thursday night to address the latest teacher contract negotiations.

The meeting is set for 5 p.m. in the Board of Education office.

But the public won't get to hear much on the subject.

Board members are expected to immediately go into executive session to discuss contract negotiations with the Quincy Federation of Teachers.

The Quincy School Board and the teacher's union are continuing to negotiate a new contract.

Teachers are scheduled to meet Tuesday at Quincy Junior High School at 3:55 p.m. to discuss the latest proposal.

Superintendent Lonny Lemon says the district hopes to hear back from the union following that meeting.

No other talks involving the federal mediator have been scheduled.

Teachers have been working without a new contract since the last one expired in late August.
