ADAMS COUNTY, ILL. -- UPDATED:  November 28 at 8:25 a.m.

Adams County Sheriff's deputies have a new lead in the theft of millions of dollars in cigarettes earlier this month.

One of the trailers used to haul the 40 pallets of cigarettes from Amcon Distributing Company in Quincy back on November sixth was recently discovered in New Jersey.

Sheriff Brent Fischer says this theft appears to be related to up to a half dozen similar burglaries, some of those known to be in the Midwest.

Fischer says is apparent the thieves are highly organized, but investigators are very actively pursuing all leads right now.

While the two tractor trailer loads of Marlboro cigarettes are still missing, but two semi trucks were recovered at a gas station in West Quincy.

The Adams County sheriff's department says they are now cooperating with state and federal authorities to expand the search for the people responsible for large theft early Sunday morning from Amcon Distributing Company.

Someone managed to get inside the building and stole two tractor trailer loads of Marlboro cigarettes.

They also stole two semi trucks that were later recovered at a gas station in West Quincy.

The two trailers and the 40 pallets of cigarettes are still missing.
