HANNIBAL, MO. -- As of November 14th, the Hannibal Police Department's Animal Control Officers have issued 196 citations for No Dog License.
All dogs within the city limits, over the age of 6 months, must be licensed.
The Hannibal Police Department would like to remind everyone the importance of licensing their dogs. Licensing dogs helps to ensure vaccinations are up to date and helps in locating their owners if the animals are found to be at large.
Applications for a license may be made at the City Collectors office and the yearly license fees are $5.00 for each dog if spayed or neutered and $10.00 for each dog if not spayed or neutered.
Licenses must be affixed to a collar or harness at all times the dog is not kept in a private building.
We asked an animal control officer if you have to reapply for a dog tag if you already have one from another city. "They still have to get a Hannibal one," said Hannibal Animal Control Officer Tim Ledbetter. "And for people that just moved here, we just give them a warning. We don't issue tickets for things like that. We just show them how to take care of things like that at City Hall. But people that have been here a while, and have received multiplpe calls, they will receive a citation for failure to have a city tag."
Here's a question to all dog owners ... is your dog licensed properly? Post your thoughts below or on our Facebook page here.
