The first National Rural Health Day brought awareness to the issue of health care in rural communities Thursday.
About 20 percent of Americans live in rural communities. If you are one of those people, you may have to drive long distances just to receive health care.
This means not all rural residents are getting the heath care they need.
Blessing Health System's rural health clinics have been serving to meet this need.
Donna White, physician, "I think it has made a big impact, for the community itself, simply because the patients are coming in and getting the health care both urgently and chronically."
East Adams County Rural Health Clinic is one of Blessing's four health clinics in the area that serve rural communities.
