QUINCY, ILL. -- The holiday season is fast approaching. This means time for family, friends, and of course some holiday shopping. We found out how to beat the crowds and still get a bargain.
On the busiest shopping day of the year, you can expect to find Black Friday specials at many large retail stores. You can also expect crowds and long lines. If that doesn't sound like fun, the Historic Quincy Business District has an alternative.
"There is something to be said for the small shop and getting that extra care and special attention and customer service that I don't know if you'll get in the stampede on your way into Macy's at 5 a.m.," said Sara Platt, the owner of the Sweet Apricot Shop.
Small Business Saturday is a national movement to encourage people to shop local and boost the local economy.
"The small business is really what is going to drive the economy and I think people know that now, and now it's a good time to get out and show your support," said Platt.
Quincy's Small Business Saturday is far from all business.
"Downtown we're going to try to make it fun for them. It won't be like standing in line and standing out in the cold to wait to get in when that store unlocks. It'll be fun, it'll be warm, the atmosphere is great downtown. The buildings are beautiful. Just come down and spend some time downtown and I think they're really going to enjoy Small Business Saturday," said Joy Behorst with Domestics Etc.
