NEWTON COUNTY, MO. -- The owner of several rescued horses in Newton County, Missouri has responded to allegations of animal abuse.

This is your Facebook Story of the Day.

Tiny Timbers Horse Rescue is near Mcdonald County.

A couple says they take rescued horses and keep them on their property.

But the sheriff's office there says for the past two years, there's been nothing but complaints from nearby residents ... mainly about a lack of food for the animals.

However, the owner says there is enough food.

Two horses were found dead during a recent visit from a TV station.

The owner says he called a veterinarian to come out as soon as possible to take care of the dead animals.

The owner says the horses died of colic, and there was nothing he could do.
