Fort Madison Mayor Steve Ireland wants to serve more of Southeast Iowa.

The Daily Democrat says Ireland has thrown his hat in the ring for state Senate.

Ireland is currently serving his fourth term as mayor and has been serving Fort Madison for over a decade, but he tells Robin Delaney with the dailydem.com that "he has been wanting to move to the state level."

District 42 covers all of Henry and Lee Counties, some of Jefferson and Washington counties.

Two other men, Rich Taylor of Mount Pleasant and Bob Morawitz of Fort Madison are also running on the democratic ticket.
