A local Missouri man has found the next way to go green while putting a little bit of cash back into your wallet and extra heat into your home.

KHQA's Kristen Aguirre gives you an inside look at Dryernet.

"You can come down and feel that heat," said Jim Atkinson.

Jim Atkinson was a new resident to Missouri a few years ago and unaware of how expensive heating a house could be. Trying to save every way he could, he came up with a product that saved heat, money and energy.

"I saw this steam coming out of sides of houses and I thought, that's got to be a good way to save money if we can harvest that heat that comes out of electric dryer," said Jim Atkinson.

With that thought Dryernet was born.

Using a special fabric net that's petroleum based, Dryernet is placed over your dryer hose. It filters 95 percent of all air particles out but keeps heat in. And setting it up is simple.

"As a demonstration this is part of a flexible hose. You take it off, you take the Dryernet out of the bag, you put it on just like this, tighten this down. You're done," said Jim Atkinson.

Easy, a money saver and eco-friendly.

"Well it saves energy because you don't use your furnace as much," said Jim Atkinson.

Disconnecting from your furnace can also decrease your chances of having one of the 15,000 fires that are caused by dryer vents each year.

"That's a lot of home fires that are caused by the dryer vent. With this you don't use the dryer vent, so you should come up with lower insurance rates," said Jim Atkinson.

While lower insurance rates can't be promised, Dryernet is said to decrease a monthly heating bill for a family of four by $20, and the more you use it the more you save.

Dryernet has been on the market since last November and has already sold over 500 filters. To order one of your own you can click here to visit the Dryernet website.
