MACOMB, ILL. -- The City of Macomb is putting forth a preemptive strike on the possibility of any adult themed businesses trying to locate within the city limits.
The ordinance is very detailed in when it comes to the type of business and or the type of activity that would be banned or allowed under the new law.
The issue came to light a few weeks ago and the council decided to act before a business of this type could open and cause an issue with the city and a possible legal fight.
Macomb Mayor Mike Inman told KHQA, "We had zoning where adult businesses could be located ... but no real definition of adult use and how that interacted with other ordinances. That is now a 19-page document fully outlining everything that needed to be contacted in those kinds of things. Again, the idea was to put it on the books; if anybody is looking at Macomb, they'll know what the playing field looks like."
Mayor Inman pointed out the ordinance does not ban these types of businesses outright, but does put laws on the books governing location and other issues associated with adult-themed types of businesses.
In the meantime, we'd like to hear from you! Do you think adult themed businesses should be banned within the Macomb city limit? Post your comments below and on our Facebook page here.
