Former school board member pleads not guilty to sexual abuse charges

HAMILTON, ILL. -- UPDATED: January 18 at 10 p.m.

The Hamilton Illinois School board selected a new member to replace Dion Gregory who resigned his post after he was charged with having sex with a minor.

The school board unanimously voted to elect Brad Hartweg to fill the vacant position on the board.

Hartweg is a first time member of the school board.

He will hold his new post until the next election in 2013.

ORIGINAL STORY:

A former school board member in Hamilton, Illinois pleaded not guilty to criminal sexual abuse charges.

Dion Gregory appeared in court on Tuesday and waived his right to a preliminary hearing.

44-year-old Gregory is charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a victim under the age of 18.

He resigned his position on the Hamilton Board of Education on December 6th. Click here to read our original story.

He will be back in court on February 27th.

The board has until January 20th to appoint Gregory's replacement on the board.
