HANNIBAL, MO. -- Higher than acceptable levels of a disinfection by-product was found in Hannibal's drinking water, and that could lead to a fine for the Board of Public Works.
The Hannibal Courier Post reports the by-product was found in September.
The Department of Natural Resources says there's no need for you to be worried.
The by-product can lead to an increased risk of cancer, but the DNR says, you would have to drink two liters of this water everyday for seventy years to be affected.
The B-P-W plans to send a mailer to its customers next month explaining the situation.
